A
Where sounds disappear from words e.g. clipping the final consonant, or within the word (hanging= ‘anging, hangin’, han’ing)

A
An over-emphasis shift in linguistic register, usually when a speaker of a non-standard variety goes “too far” in trying to emulate the standard variety

A
Where the pronunciation of one phoneme is affected by the adjacent phoneme e.g. Don’t you = doncha

The Great Vowel Shift
A
Development in English phonology across the 15th/16th Century, sound of long vowels in English changed their places of articulation e.. monophthong in ‘house’ /u/ [hoos] to diphthong /au/ [house]
