The study of sounds made in the production of human language
Articulatory Phonetics
Study of how sounds are produced in the vocal tract
Difference
There is often a difference between how sounds are spoken and how they are represented in writing
Homophones
Words that are pronounced alike but spelled differently (to, two, too)
Voiced vs. Unvoiced Sounds (Phonemes)
Voiced consonants make your through vibrate (b, d, g). Unvoiced consonants are created just in the mouth (p, t, k). All vowels are voiced.
Manners of Articulation
Characteristics of sound (stops, fricatives, nasals, liquids, glides)
Places of Articulation
Where sounds are made in the mouth (labial, bilabial, interdental, alveolar, palatal, velar, and glottal)
