Phonation Flashcards
What is the epiglottis?
Elastic, leaf shaped cartilage attached to the hyoid and thyroid. It folds downwards in order to close the entrance to the larynx.
What is the Cricod cartilage?
Complete ring of cartilage that connects the trachea.
What is the thyroid?
Largest cartilage of the larynx. Articulates with cricoid. Vocal folds attach to anterior commissure
What are the arytenoids cartilages?
Vocal folds attach to vocal processes. Laryngeal muscles attach to muscular processes.
What are the corniculates cartilages?
Located at apex of arytenoids.
What are the cuneiform cartilages?
Elastic rods of cartilage embedded within the aryepiglottic folds.
What is the crioarytenoid joint?
Between base of arytenoids and superior surface of quadrate lamina; involved in adduction and abduction of vocal fold.
What is the cricothyroid joint?
Between inferior horns of thyroid and lateral aspect of cricoid; involved in F0 regulation by enlongating and shortening vocal folds.
