What are the emotional characteristics of phobias?

Phobias are irrational, persistent and extensive fears that are characterised by anxiety in both presence and anticipation of the feared object or situation.

What are the behavioural characteristics of phobias?
A
A phobia is an anxiety based response demonstrated in the presence of the object/situation. Due to avoidance of it there is a disruption of functioning.

What are the cognitive characteristics of phobias?
A
Phobias involve irrational thought processes and resistance to rational perspectives. Fears may be recognised as excessive or unreasonable.
