-avoidance(avoiding situations where you may encounter the phobic stimulus)
-endurance(remaining in the presence of the phobic stimulus but continuing to experience high levels of anxiety)
Two emotional characteristics of phobias and brief description of each
-anxiety(unpleasant state of high arousal which prevents sufferer from relaxing)
-fear(an unpleasant emotion caused by the belief that someone or something is dangerous or likely to cause pain, usually an unreasonable response)
Three cognitive characteristics of phobias and brief description of each
-selective attention(sufferers will attend to the phobic stimulus even if not a threat so is difficult to direct attention elsewhere)
-irrational beliefs(unreasonable beliefs in relation to the phobic stimuli)
-cognitive distortions(may perceive the phobic stimulus worse than it actually is)
