Phisical Science Flashcards
Velocity
The speed and direction of an objects motion
Friction
A force that occurs when two objects rub against each other
Average speed
Distance divided by time
Newton’s 1st law
An object that is at rest stays at rest until a force acts on it; an object that is in motion stays in motion until a force acts on it
Newton’s 2nd law
When two forces on an object are balanced, the object doesn’t move. When the forces are unbalanced, their objects move at different paces
Newton’s 3rd law
For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction
Chemical changes
Changes that you can’t reverse
Chemical properties
Characteristics of a material that become evident
Physical properties
Properties that you can describe using senses
Physical changes
Changes that affect the form of a chemical substances
Radiation
The process of heat being transferred by the sun
Conduction
Heat being transferred by two touching objects
Convection
Heat being transferred by a liquid or a gas
Force
A push or a pull that acts on an object
