What is agoraphobia?
Fear/anxiety about open spaces, enclosed spaces, public transport, standing in line, crowds and/or being outside of home alone.
What is anhedonia?
Loss of pleasure
What is tardive dyskinesia?
Involuntary, repetitive movements (e.g. grimacing, lip smacking, eye blinking) caused by antipsychotics
What is delirium?
Acute, fluctuating alteration of consciousness and impairment of cognition
What is pseudodementia?
Cognitive impairment that mimics dementia, often due to depression, schizophrenia or psychoactive drugs
What is confabulation?
Fabricating, distorting or misinterpreting memories due to memory disturbance, without the intention to deceive
How do psychosis and neurosis differ?
Psychosis = disconnection with reality Neurosis = abnormal reaction to reality (symptoms of distress but no disconnection with reality)
What are echolalia and echopraxia?
Echolalia = repeating / mimicking language Echopraxia = repeating / mimicking actions
What is circumstanciality?
Speech going around in circles and coming back to the same point
What is perseveration?
Repetition of a response in the absence of a stimulus
What is thought blocking?
speech interrupted by silences
What is transitory thinking?
Type of formal thought disorder featuring:
- Derailments (A > D)
- Substitutions (of words, phrases)
- Omissions (of words, grammar)
What is drivelling thinking?
Nonsense, muddled language, word salad
What is desultory thinking?
Lacks a plan, sudden ideas, lack of logical connections, loosening of association
What is catatonia?
= disturbance of motor function
- Abnormal execution: mitism, stupor, rigidity
- Abnormal movement: opposition, echolalia/echopraxia, waxy flexibility
