PHC Flashcards
Differentiate between PHC, Primary Care, and Primary nursing
Primary Health Care is a philosophy of health care and embraces five types of care: Promotive Preventive Curative Rehabilitative Supportive/palliative
Primary Care refers to first-line medical care and health care controlled by the provider; often community based and frequently rendered in physician’s offices or clinics
-lacks community participation
Primary Nursing is a system of delivering nursing services where the nurse is responsible for planning 24 hour care for each patient and gives direct care when on duty
Identify the direction that the principles of PHC give the nurse in the acute care setting
Hospitals are better linked to community resources. A system that has a focus on people and communities, not just diseases. We see a system where health professional, social services, educators and others collaborate with community members.
Nurses have a vital role to not only understand PHC, but also advocate for a health system based on PHC principles –collaborative practices, illness prevention and health promotion
Describe the range of health promotion activities that nurses working in hospitals undertake
-health education, nutrition, sanitation, maternal and child care, immunization, prevention and control of endemic disease
