Waxing crescent
The moon appears to be partly less the one-half lit by direct sunlight. The fraction of the moon’a disk that is lit is increasing on the right side.
New moon
The moon’s unlit side Is facing the earth. The moon is not visible the moon is located between the Earth and Sun. (NOT AN ECLIPSE)
First quarter
One half of the moon appears to bit lit by direct sunlight on the right side. The fraction of the moon’s disk that is lit is increasing.
Waxing gibbous
The moon appears to be more than one-half but not fully lit by direct sunlight. The fraction of the moon’s disk that is illuminated is increasing from the right.
Full moon
The moon’ slit side is facing the earth. The moon appears to be completely lit by direct sunlight.
Waning gibbous
The moon appears to be more than one-half but not fully lit by direct sunlight. The fraction of the moon’s disk is lit is decreasing from the right (Shadow/darkness starting to appear).
Last quarter
One-half moon appears to be lit by direct sunlight on the left. The fraction of the moon’s disk is lit is decreasing from the right.
