Phases of Matter Flashcards
Explanation of how particles in matter behave.
Kinetic theory
Temp at which a solid begins to liquefy.
Melting point
Amount of energy required to change a substance from a solid to a liquid at its melting point.
Heat of fusion
Temp at which the pressure of the vapor in the liquid is equal to the external pressure acting on the surface of the liquid.
Boiling point
Amount of energy required for the liquid at its boiling point to become a gas.
Heat of vaporization
Spreading of particles throughout a given volume until they are uniformly distributed.
Diffusion
Matter consisting of positive and negative charged particles.
Plasma
Increase in the size of the substance when the temperature is increased.
Thermal expansion
