Forces Flashcards
A push or pull one body exerts on another.
Force
An object moving at a constant velocity keeps moving at that velocity, an object at rest stays at rest unless acted upon by a net force.
Newtons 1st law
Tendency of an object to resist any change in motion.
Inertia
Combination of all forces acted upon 1 object.
Net Force
Every object exerts a force on every other object. (felt as a pull)
Gravity
Amount of matter an object has.
Mass
Measure of a force of gravity on an objects mass; how hard the object is pulled toward the center of the earth.
Weight
To every action there’s an equal (in size) and opposite (in direction) reaction force.
3rd Law of Motion
Mass on the move. (Force required to stop a moving object).
Momentum
Anything thrown or shot through the air.
Projectile
Force acting toward the center of a curved or circular path.
Centripetal Force
Opposes motion between two surfaces touching each other.
Friction
Resists getting an object moving. (When objects aren’t moving)
Static Friction
Resists getting an object to move. (When objects are moving.
Kinetic Fritction
Force = mass X acceleration
Newton’s 2nd Law
