New moon
When the side of the moon that is facing earth is not illuminated
Phases
The different apparent shapes of the moon as seen from Earth.
Waxing crescent
When a little bit of the moon is showing on the side that is facing earth
First quarter
When half of the moon is showing on the side that is facing earth for the first half of the evening
Waxing gibbous
When most of the moon is visible. During this phases the moon stays out for most of the night.
Last quarter
During this phase you can seeds toy 1/2 of the moons lighted surface
Full moon
This is when we can see all of the moons lighted surface. Rises as evening begins and sets right when it ends.
Waning gibbous
This is just like the waxing gibbous but instead you see less and less each night
Waning crescent
You can only see a sliver of the moon. And you see less each night for less time.
Eclipse
The partial or total blocking of one object in space by another.
Solar eclipse
The blocking of sunlight to Earth that occurs when the moon is directly between the sun and Earth.
Lunar eclipse
The blocking of sunlight to the moon that occurs when Earth is directly between the sun and the moon.
