Phase II Block 5 Circuits Flashcards
Voltage sources
Where power comes from
- Wall socket, batteries
Loads
use voltage to do something
- Resistive - light bulb
- Capacitive - batteries
- Inductive - hot plate
Swithes
Allow portions of the circuit to be connected and disconnected
- Open = off
- Closed = on
Circuit Configurations
Series
Voltage adds up
Vtotal = V1 + V2
Batteries in series = twice brightness (not long brightness)
Resistance in series
resistance adds up; voltage to the first light bulb is high (brighter) than voltage to second lightbulb
Switches in series
Form AND gate
All must be closed for the circuit to work
Circuit Configuration
Parallel
Voltage Sources in parallel
Vtotal= V1= V2
Resistance in parallel
Always reduces total circuit resistance
Switches in circuit
create an OR gate. Only one switch must be closed for the circuit to work
