Phase 7 Flashcards
What tools do you need to plan a cross country flight?
E6-B, sectional chart, winds aloft, PIM, Nav log, chart supplement
What do you need to consider when planning an XC flight?
Airspace, terrain, obstructions, weather,
VORS, NOTAMS, checkpoints, direction, diversions.
What are the first two checkpoints in a XC?
On course and TOC
FAR 91.159 - cruising altitude
NEODD SWEVEN + 500 for VFR
FAR 91.151 - fuel requirements
Day VFR - 30 minutes reserve, Night VFR - 45 minutes reserve, AVAD VFR - 1 hour reserve.
How would FAR 91.119 be part of consideration when determine route?
Minimum safe altitudes over different areas.
What needs to be considered when calculating TOC?
Time, fuel, and distance to climb chart.
FAR 91.103 - flight planning stage
NWKRAFT: NOTAMS, weather, known ATC delays, runways lengths, alternates, fuel, takeoff/landing distances..
XC naviagtion?
GPS, VOR
What is pilotage and what are some examples?
Comparing what you see on the chart to what’s on the ground. Major roads, bodies of water, power lines, other airports, rivers, etc.
What is dead reckoning?
The Nav Log. Distances, fuel consumption, and time calculations.
What compass checks need to be done when taxiing?
The compass and the heading indicator need to be checked to make sure they match.
What is the compass error called and where is the information contained to make the adjustment to our magnetic heading if needed?
Deviation and the compass card
What should the range for the distance between checkpoints be?
10-20 Nm
Why do you need a terminal chart when flying near or in class b airspace?
Provides a better detail of the airspace
