Phase 2 Flashcards
What responsibilities do Oceanic controllers have in addition to those specified in MATS for Area Controllers?
- maintaining the Oceanic Position ATS logbook
- monitoring HF to allow Air-Ground operators to take a break overnight
- ensuring the Reserve OCS is in a state of readiness
- fulfilling person in charge responsibilities
- actioning NOTAMs regarding DRP reservation areas relevant to oceanic operations (OCS and OCR positions)
Define clearance limit.
The position to which an aircraft is granted an air traffic control clearance.
What are the 5 main HF frequencies monitored by Auckland Radio?
3467 5643 8867 13261 17904
What are the vertical dimensions of controlled airspace within the lateral boundaries of the Nadi FIR?
Class G F600 Class A F200 Class D F095 Class G

?
Briefly describe what the duty controller should do in the event of a full evacuation of Auckland Centre.
- take the necessary action to ensure the separation of aircraft
- transfer aircraft communications to the:
- Christchurch Control frequency 129.5 for oceanic radar traffic, or
- air-ground radio station closest to the aircraft
- hold aircraft on the ground
- notify all relevant aircraft using the following suggested phrase: “All stations, this is Auckland Oceanic Control. Air traffic services are suspended due to (reason). Contact (unit) (frequency) for further information.”
- advise all adjacent units and air-ground radio stations that no further aircraft have permission to enter the airspace
- notify the Oceanic Team Leader and Christchurch Duty Manager of your actions
Where is the evacuation assembly point?
North eastern corner of carpark
Who is responsible for the provision of an inflight briefing service to ALL flights within the Auckland Oceanic FIR, including those using CPDLC as a primary means of communication?
The air-ground operator, except for SIGMET information passed to CPDLC flights, which shall be passed by the Oceanic Controller.
Describe the controller responsibilities when the OCS displays an actual/imminent conflict alert.
Immediate action is required.
Describe the controller responsibilities when the OCS displays an advisory conflict alert.
In normal circumstances immediate resolution is not required.
Using the diagrams on worksheet 1, please indicate whether or not conflicts would be displayed on OCS in the situations represented.
?
What separation standards does OCS not recognise or apply?
Domestic separation standards.
Describe how controllers may extend a protected profile for an aircraft beyond it’s ETA at destination, and include any provisos relating to the procedure.
By issuing a clearance beyond the current profile end point, or to hold at the current end point, provided the clearance is issued prior to the aircraft crossing the current route end point.
OCS does not detect conflicts with respects to holding pattern procedures. How may a controller protect a holding aircraft?
- the creation of an airspace reservation centered on the holding point will provide 50nm lateral separation from the reserved airspace boundary
- default airspace reservations of 20nm radius are available over most of the Pacific Islands
When are oceanic controllers permitted to activate the conflict override function?
- domestic or military separation is being applied between aircraft operating in controlled airspace
- aircraft are changing flight levels after having reported mutual sighting and passing
- RNP 10 or better aircraft are operating on airways Q912, Q947 or Q983 and the confliction is with M203
- traffic information has been relayed to traffic outside controlled airspace
- separation has been delegated to another sector
- confliction is wholly contained in another FIR, and, if necessary, has been brought to the attention of the appropriate controller
What shall controllers do when the OCS reports a confliction between aircraft in uncontrolled airspace?
Pass traffic information to the aircraft concerned.
What should an oceanic controller do so that the OCS will detect conflicts with VFR flights?
The oceanic controller shall enter an appropriate block altitude, the lower level should be F030 and the upper level commensurate with the aircraft type.
How should Oceanic Controllers action queues?
According to the priority indicating. Queues indicating RED or YELLOW have priority over other queues.
What are the rules associated with autoroute?
Autoroute shall be selected ON at all times.
When the level approval has been passed to and read back by the radar controller, the route for that aircraft shall be turned off. The route of an aircraft may be turned on as a reminder of a specific event.
What action must controllers carry out when manually cancelling a flight plan?
- use the Flight Plan Enter/Amend (FPEA) Window for non-routine flight plan deletion
- prior to confirming flight plan cancellation in the pop-up confirmation message, check the aircraft position on the ASD
May oceanic controllers clear NON-RVSM aircraft to climb and descend through Auckland Oceanic Airspace?
Yes
