28
Q

Laryngopharynx boundaries

A

superior epiglottis to inferior boarder of cricocartilage

29
Q

Cricothyroid m inn

A

external laryngeal n.

30
Q

Inferior constrictor m. inn

A

CN X

31
Q

Pharyngeal m. inn

A

CN X

32
Q

Cricothyroid m.

A

O: cricoid cartilage
I: thyroid cartilage
Inn: external laryngeal n.
A: TILT thyroid cartilage anteriorly- TENSING vocal cords (produces higher pitches of phonation/voice) this muscle action causes the tilting/movement of the cricothyoid joint

33
Q

Posterior Cricoarytenoid m.

A

O: cricoid cartilage
I: arytenoid cartilages
Inn: inferior laryngeal n. (Recurrent Laryngeal N.)
Action: OPEN glottis by abducting arytenoid cartilages (only mm to OPEN GLOTTIS)

34
Q

Arytenoid mm.

A

O: arytenoid cartilages
I: arytenoid cartilage
Inn: inferior laryngeal n.
Action: close glottis by adducting arytenoid cartilages

35
Q

Lateral Cricoarytenoid m.

A

O: cricoid cartilage
I: arytenoid cartilages
Inn: inferior laryngeal n.
Action: close glottis by adducting arytenoid cartilages

36
Q

Thyroarytenoid m.

A

O: thyroid cartilage
I: arytenoid cartilages
Inn: inferior laryngeal n.
Action: Shorten & relax vocal cords

37
Q

Vocalis m.

A

Run parallel with the vocal cords, adjusting the tension of the cords for phonation
Action: alter vocal cords during phonation/voice

38
Q

Rima glottis

A

leads to trachea

39
Q

Vestibular folds

A

False Vocal Cord
-Sit on top of vocal fold (true vocal cord)

40
Q

Laryngeal ventricle

A

In between true and false vocal cord
-Entry: laryngeal vestibule

41
Q

Superior laryngeal n.

A

Gives rise to internal & external laryngeal nn.

42
Q

Internal laryngeal n.

A

Pierces thyrohyoid membrane (watchdog)
- Injury: sensory loss to superior larynx

43
Q

External laryngeal n.

A

runs superificial to cricothyroid m.

44
Q

Recurrent laryngeal n.

A

Circles aorta or subclavian
- Becomes inferior laryngeal n.

45
Q

Inferior laryngeal n.

A

Runs posterior to cricothyroid joint
- Gives inn to arytenoid vocal mm.
- Inferior: ipsilateral injury to this nerve- paralyzes mm., therefore paralysis of the ipsilateral vocal fold (leads to hoarseness as vocal folds cannot meet in midline
- Bilateral loss causes almost total loss of voice
- Continuation of recurrent (name change at cricothyroid joint)
