Q

Buccopharyngeal fascia layer

A

Invests constrictor muscles of the pharynx. Space between the the buccopharyngeal fascia and prevertebral fascia is the Retropharyngeal space. Contains the pharyngeal plexus.

Q

Superior Constrictor

A

Largest of the three constrictor muscles; Originates from the pterygoid hamulus, pterygomandibular raphe and mandible. It has an additional attachment at the pharyngeal tubercle of the occipital bone. Innervated by the pharyngeal plexus

16
Q

Stylopharyngeus

A

Originates from the styloid process. Passes between the superior and middle constrictors to inserts on the thyroid cartilage. Innervated by CN IX.

17
Q

Pharyngeal Tonsils

A

Found in the nasopharynx

18
Q

Pharyngeal Plexus

A

The plexus receives nerve fibers from CN IX, X and XI, and sympathetic nerves

19
Q

Sensory innervation to Pharynx

A

The sensory innervation to the pharynx is provided by CN IX
