A
Usually viral (2/3rds)
-adeno, entero, rhino

Bacterial
-Group A Beta haemolytic strep in older children (Scarlet fever)

What are the clinical features of tonsillitis?

A

Intense inflammation
Purulent exudate
Constitutional disturbance
-headache, cervical lymphadenopathy

What is the treatment for pharyngitis and tonsillitis?

A

ABx often prescribed for severe infections,

-not possible to distinguish clinically between bacterial and viral infections
