A
6 months - 6 years typical age range
Peak incidence = 2 years
Most common in autumn

What are the clinical features of Croup
A
Coryza and fever
followed by:
- Hoarseness
- barking cough
- Harsh stridor
- Dyspnoea
Symptoms often start, and are worse at, night

Treatment of Croup
A
Mild (recession and stridor disappear at rest
- home - monitor for signs of increasing severity
Oral dexamethasone, prednisolone, nebulised steroids (budesonide)
Severe
-nebulised adrenaline w/ O2

- onset - days vs hours
- preceding coryza- yes vs no
- Cough - severe, barking vs absent, slight
- Drinking? - Yes vs No
- Drooling? - No vs Yes
- Appearance - Unwell vs Toxic
- Fever- <38.5* vs >38.5*
- Stridor - Harsh, rasping vs soft, whispering
- Voice - Hoarse vs Muffled
