Antihistamines
Drugs that combat histamine released during allergic reaction by blocking action of histamine on the tissue
Antiemetic
Prevents or reduces nausea and vomiting
Bronchitis
Inflammation & swelling of the bronchi
Congestion
Abnormal or excessive accumulation of a body fluid
Constipation
Infrequent (& frequently incomplete) bowel movements
Contraindication
Symptom or medical condition renders the admin of a particular drug inadvisable
Decongestant
Drug-shrinks swollen membranes in nose for easier breathing. Can be oral or nasally with spray, no more than 5 days w/o doctor’s advice & with a nasal steroid due to potential rebound effect.
Diabetes
Body can’t regulate levels of glucose in blood
Diuretic
Agent which increases urine output
Hyperlipidemia
Elevation of lipids, or fats in blood. May be due to increased triglycerides, cholesterol or both-may lead to heart disease
Hypertension
High blood pressure
Inflammation
Basic way the body reacts to infection, irritation or other injury, key feature being redness, warmth, swelling and pain
Insomnia
Perception or complaint of inadequate or poor quality sleep because of one or more: difficulty falling asleep, waking up frequently during night with difficulty returning to sleep, waking up too early in the morning or unrefreshing sleep
Reflux
The term used when liquid backs up into the esophagus from the stomach
Sinusitis
Inflammation of the lining membrane of any hollow areas (sinuses) of the bone of the skull around the nose
Stool
Solid matter discharged in a bowel movement
