What is the composition of the Pharmacist Accreditation Board? Who are appointed by Minister? Up to how many years of term?
- Not less than 6 registered pharmacists
- Chairman and members appointed by Minister
- Up to 3-year term, eligible for re-appointment
- May appoint committees to assist in its functions
What are the requirements for the PSAB Chairman?
- Appointed from among members of PSAB by Minister
- Preside Board Meetings
- Has a casting vote in an event of equality of votes in determining an issue/question
What are the 6 functions of the PSAB?
- Determine qualifications, experience and other conditions for specialists registration - s37(1)(a)
- Define specialties in the practice of pharmacy - s37(1)(b)
- Accredit training programmes to be recognized to qualify for specialists registration - s37(1)(c)
- Certify persons having qualifications for specialist registration - s37(1)(d)
- Recommend to Council programmes for CPE of specialist pharmacists - s37(1)(e)
- Advise Council on matters related to specialists registration – s37(1)(f)
What must you possess in order to be eligible for specialist registration?
Must be fully registered pharmacist
Holds a valid PC and is currently practising in Singapore
A relevant postgraduate qualification recognised by PSAB (e.g. PharmD from NUS)
A valid specialty certification (in existing 7 specialties) recognised by PSAB
Has completed 1 year full-time residency training in broad-based pharmacotherapy recognized by PSAB; AND 1 year full-time residency in specialty applied for and recognized by PSAB
Has accumulated 1 year of specialty practice experience in specialty applied for (after residency training), in the 3 years preceding application.

What is the process for specialist registration?
Pharmacist submits application form with all required documents to PSAB, then SPC.
PSAB: Issues a certificate of eligibility for specialist registration (specialist accreditation)
SPC: Register applicant in Register of Specialists and Issues a specialist certificate of registration in that branch of pharmacy (specialist registration) & Practising Certificate (PC)
