Pharmacology & Post-Op Care Flashcards
Hypovalemia
Reduced blood circulating within the body
Shock
Hypoperfusion.
Inability of the body to supply cells with oxygen.
Heart failure to pump
Loss of blood volume
Dilation of blood vessels leaving too much space and not enough available blood to fill it.
Compensated Shock
Increased heart rate, respiration and constriction of peripheral circulating leaving peripheries cold and high capillary refill time.
Decompensated Shock
Low blood volume or lack of perfusion.
Symptoms include faling blood pressure.
Common types of shock
Hypovalemic shock - due to uncontrolled blood loss
Plasma Loss- occurs during crush or burn injury
Cardiogenic shock - occurs during myocardial infarction
Neurogenic - uncontrolled dilation of blood vessels due to nerve damage in the spine. There is no blood loss however there is not enough available circulating blood to fill the space.
