A

Ensures that pharmaceuticals are disposed of in a blue, leak proof container and solids and liquids must be separated to avoid chemical reactions and fires, to be incinerated. A drugs leasion officer must witness the denaturing of controlled drugs.

A

A person deemed to have successfully undergone a course of training approved by the Animal Medicines Training Regulatory Authority.

What is the Small Animal Exemption Scheme?

A

Some veterinary products can be marketed for small pet animals without a marketing authorisation and therefore not required to prove safety, quality or efficacy. The active ingredients for specific species must be approved and labelled clearly to show its being marketed under this scheme. Applies to fish, rodents, cage birds and rabbits.

What specifications are there for food producing animals?

A

Food producing animals must not be on drugs and have a withdrawal period of:
- 7 days for eggs and milk
- 28 days for meat from mammals and poultry
- 500 degree days for meat from fish
before being used for food- these records must be kept for 5 years

What is SARSS and what do they do?

A

Suspected Adverse Reaction Surveillance Scheme- any adverse reactions to drugs should be recorded to SARSS under the RCVS code of conduct. Can be augmented or bizarre reactions.
