10
Q

what is the mechanism of folic acid?

A

folic acid is converted into tetrahydrofolic acid and methyltetrahydrofolate (by dihydrofolate reductase). these products travel across cells by endocytosis and are required to maintain erythropoiesis, synthesis nucleic acids, generate and use formate and interconvert amino acids

16
Q

how is folic acid administered?

A

subcutaneously, intramuscularly or intravenously

17
Q

what drug class is ferrous sulphate?

A

iron supplement therapy

18
Q

what are the indications of ferrous sulphate?

A

anaemia and pregnancy

19
Q

what is the mechanism for ferrous sulphate?

A

it replaces iron levels in the blood/stored and therefore maintains heme production and therefore erythrocyte production.

20
Q

what are the side effects of ferrous sulphate?

A

constipation
diarrhoea
stomach cramps

21
Q

how is ferrous sulphate administered?

A

orally, on an empty stomach 1 hour before a meal with vitamin C
