Inhaled salbutamol
An add-on B-2 agonist used in asthma that responds poorly to initial management.
Inhaled salmeterol
A methylxanthine used as add-on therapy in asthma. Serum levels must be monitored due to drug interactions.
Oral theophylline
An anti-inflammatory that can trigger bronchospasm in sensitive individuals.
Oral ibuprofen
A CysLT-1 receptor antagonist (anti-leukotriene), used as add-on therapy in asthma.
Oral montelukast
A synthetic glucocorticoid used to prevent inflammation in chronic asthma.
Inhaled beclometasone
A synthetic glucocorticoid used in severe or rapidly deteriorating asthma.
Oral prednisolone
A weak anti-inflammatory drug used which can be useful in children and young adults.

A methylxanthine drug with bronchodilator and anti-inflammatory action. Has many side effects and drug interactions
Theophylline
A competitive H1 receptor antagonist used to treat allergic rhinitis.
Fexofenadine
A short acting drug that blocks acetylcholine receptors non-selectively. Can be delivered intranasally to treat rhinorrhoea.
Ipratropium
An anticholinergic drug, selective for M3 receptors with a long half life.
Tiotropium
A cysteinyl leukotriene receptor antagonist used to treat asthma and allergice rhinitis
Monteleukast
An inhaled corticosteroid often used in combination with a beta-2 adrenoceptor agonist.
