Q

Receptor and Functions:

A

alpha 1 receptors- vasoconstriction of smooth muscle
glandular smooth muscle- secretion from glands

Beta 2 receptors- relax smooth muscle; vascular smooth muscle-vasodilation

Beta 1 Receptors- cause the contraction of the heart, increased electrical conductance

Muscarinic Receptors- contraction of smooth muscle

Q

Parasympathetic vs Sympathetic Effects

A

Parasympathetic Effects:

  • salivation
  • lacrimation
  • pupil constriction
  • decrease in heart rate
  • urination
  • increased secretion
  • increased GI track motility

Sympathetic Effects:

  • pupil dilation
  • increase in heart rate
  • urinary retention
  • decreased secretions
  • decreased GI track motility

Q

What is the Baroreceptor Reflex

A

As Blood Pressure increases, the aortic arch has stretch receptors that activate the release of Acetylcholine to the Baroreceptor Nuclei. This causes the activation of vagal efferents to the heart via M3 Receptors which SLOWS DOWN THE HEART, AND DECREASES THE BP.
