Pharmacology Flashcards
What is the pharmacology and action of aspirin?
An analgesic, antipyretic, anti inflammatory, and anti-platelet aggregation agent.
What is the pharmacology and action of adrenaline? 4 beta1 actions, 1 beta 2, and 1 Alpha action.
Adrenaline is a naturally according alpha and beta-adrenergic stimulant.
Beta 1:
Increase SA node rate (increase HR)
Increase conduction velocity through AV node
Increase myocardial contractility
Increase irritability of ventricles
Beta2:
Causes bronchodilation
Alpha: causes peripheral Vasoconstriction
What is the pharmacology and action of ceftriaxone?
It is a cephalosporin antibiotic
What is the pharmacology and action of dextrose 10%?
Slightly hypertonic crystal loud solution made of sugar 10% and water.. Provides energy and supply’s body water
What is the pharmacology and action of fentanyl?
A synthetic opioid analgesic
CNS depression
Respiratory depression
Addiction
Decreased conduction velocity via AV node
What is the pharmacology and action of glucagon
A hormone normally secreted by the pancreas.
Causes increase in BSL by converting stored liver glycogen to glucose
What is the pharmacology and action of GTN
Vascular smooth muscle relaxant
Reduces preload and after load. Arterial and venous dilation
What is the pharmacology and action of atrovent?
Anticholinergic bronchodilator.
Allows bronchodilation by inhibiting cholinergic bronchomotor tone (blocks vagal reflexes which mediate bronchi constriction)
What is the pharmacology and action of lignocaine?
A local anaesthetic agent
What is the pharmacology and action of Maxalon?
Antiemetic
Accelerates gastric emptying and peristalsis
Dopamine receptor antagonist
What is the pharmacology and action of midazolam?
Benzodiazepine
Short acting CNS depressant
Sedation and anticonvulsant
What is the pharmacology and action of misoprostol?
Synthetic prostaglandin
Enhances uterine contractions
What is the pharmacology and action of morphine?
An opioid analgesic
CNS depression Respiratory depression Depression of cough reflex Can cause Dependence Vasodilation Decrease conduction velocity through AVnode
What is the pharmacology and action of nalaxone?
Opioid antagonist
Prevents/ reverses the effects of opioids
What is the pharmacology and action of normal saline?
Isotonic crystalloid solution
Increases volume of intravascular compartment
