Pharmacology Flashcards
Omeprazole
• proton pump inhibitor
Impairs H+/K+ ATPase irreversibly
= new pumps need to be made for acid production
Ranitidine/famotidine/cimetidine
H2-receptor antagonist
Competitively blocks H2 receptor on parietal bells
Efficacy depends on maintaining plasma concentratio
Contraindication and side effects for furosemide use
Contraindications:
hypokalemia
- hyponatremia
- dehydration
Side effects:
- worsening of ARF
-
Furosemide: Mechanism of action
Loop diuretic, Natriuretic
inhibits Na+-K+-2Cl− cotransporter in the ascending limb of the loop of Henle
Changes in renal hemodynamics: increase in renal blood flow and possibly GFR, increase of PGE2 production in ascending loop of Henle
Changes in systemic hemodynamics: e.g. increase in stroke volume and cardiac output
