Pharmacology Flashcards
What do agonist drugs do?
What do Antagonist drugs do?
Facilitate effect of NT when it binds to the receptor.
Block the effect of the receptor.
What does Opium bind do?
Receptors located in the periaqueductal grey (connects 3 + 4 ventricle) location of many opioid receptors.
What are endogenous opiods?
Naturally occurring opioids, all are neuropeptide with metabotropic receptors
Name some endogenous opioids.
Enkephalins - Neuropeptides that act as opioids in the body
Endorphins - endogenous and morphine
What are two different acetylcholine receptors?
Nicotine and muscarine bind to two different kinds of acetylcholine receptors
Nicotinic (ionotropic) and muscarinic (metabotropic receptors)
What are receptors called that bind to acetylcholine NT called?
Cholinergic receptors
What does atropine do to cholinergic receptors?
Antagonist, stopping ace from binding to muscarinic receptors in CNS. Has effect on memory,
What is curare and what does it do?
Binds to nicotinic receptors, receptor blocker, prevents other NT from binding to this receptor, antagonistic effect , prevents signals between neurons and muscles and paralysis muscles.
What are two Anti schizophrenic drugs from 1950s?
