Pharmacokinetics Of Spinal Anesthesia Flashcards
1
Q
How do you make equal parts of Tetracaine 1% and Dextrose 10% to make the solution hyperbaric?
A
- Need to use preservative free 50% dextrose bristojet
- Dilute 1mL of 50% dextrose with 4mL of sterile preservative free saline in 5ml syringe
- This gives you 5mL of 10% dextrose solution
- For 1.4 mL of Tetracaine add 1.4 mL of dextrose solution
2
Q
Which baricity is commonly used?
A
Hyperbaric solutions are most commonly used.
3
Q
Which baricity of LA solution offers a more profound block and prolonged duration of action?
A
Your isobaric solution (bupivacaine 0.5% as it is used at South Jersey)
4
Q
What is baricity?
A
Baricity is the ratio of the density of the local anesthetic to the density of the CSF at a specific temperature.
