Pharmacokinetics Flashcards
Master all
What is pharmacokinetics?
Movement of drug into and out of body
What are the functions we have( in vensim)
Step function
Pulse function
Pulse train function
What are the characteristics of the Step Function.
Drug administration::::::
Not always constant
Do not always start at time zero
Pulse function characteristics
Bolus injections
Single large dose delivered over a short period of time
INGESTING a single LARGE dose
🤪NOT REPEATED🤪
Dose=height×duration
What are the characteristics of a pulse train function
Series of bolus injections
Repeated single large doses delivered over short periods
INGESTING a single dose of drugs at regular intervals
NB…consistent time between doses.
What are the characteristics of CLEARANCE?
Allows us to use conc. Of drug instead of an absolute amount of drug
FOS elimination
It has a constant value
Clearance=Rate constant (k) ×Volume of distribution (V)
Define clearance
The rate of elimination divided by the plasma concentration of the drug.
REMAINS CONSTANT SO THAT THE DRUG INPUT EQUALS THE DRUG OUTPUTS.
UNIT::::::::::: Volume/Time
How many half-lives does it take to achieve a steady-state plasma drug concentration???
It takes Five (5) half lives
