Pharmacodynamics Flashcards
adverse drug event
injury that occurs during treatment not necessarily caused by the drug itself
adverse drug reaction
“response to a drug which is noxious and unintended and which occurs at doses normally used in man
Usually mimic disease or syndrome
types of ADR
Exaggerated response Desired pharmacological effect at alternative/additional site (GTN –headache)
Additional/secondary pharmacological effect (QT length) Triggering an immunological response (anaphylaxis)
type A ADR
augmented, dose dependent, frequent, predictable, drug overdose, explained by pharmacologic drug effect
type B ADR
bizarre, dose independent, rare, unpredictable, not explained by pharmacologic drug effect
pharmacogenetics
small number of genes involving drug metabolism
pharmacogenomics
complex multigene patterns within the genome. to predict they will respond to drugs
commitment to genomic medicine
genomes project, genomics education, genomic medicine service, pharmacogenetics agenda, precision medicine
