capsule (cap)

elixir (elix)
medication dissolved into a hydro-alcoholic liquid and sweetened to have an agreeable taste and odor
inhaler, puffer
device for administering medication by inhaling them as a mist
lozenge
dry medicinal solid, held in the mouth until it dissolves
ointment (ung)
medicated, fatty, soft substance having antiseptic, cosmetic, or healing properties
suppository (supp)
drug mixed in a fatty base to create a torpedo shaped solid form which is inserted into the rectum, urethra, or vagina
suspension (susp)
medication mixed into, but not dissolved in, a liquid; medication remains intact in the form of small particles
tablet (tab)
small flat compressed piece of solid drug
vial
small glass bottle containing medication for injection; the top of the vial is covered with a rubber dam that a needle can be inserted through to allow the nurse to draw solution
