They’re medicinal products which aren’t POM or GSL or which are classified by manufactures as P in their marketing authorisation

The pharmacist must be aware of the sale and be in a position to intervene where necessary

When a pharmacist isn’t present at the pharmacy premises
Where could a P medicines be placed in a pharmacy?
- Empty boxes of P medicines can be placed on self selection of shelves and be brought to the pharmacy counter to buy
- P medicines could be placed behind a glass lockable door so patients can look at the packaging without accessing them
What should a pharmacist do when a patient tries to buy a P medicines
A pharmacist should ask appropriate questions to ensure the medicine is suitable for the patient especially it the request is based on a advertisement or someone else’s recommendation

They are both P medicines used as decongestants
And can be used to manufacture of crystal meth

- 720 mg pseudoephedrine
- 180 mg ephedrine
Who can sell pseudoephedrine or ephedrine
A pharmacist or a trained member of staff under the supervision of a pharmacist
It’s unlawful to sell a pseudoephedrine contains product at the same time as an ephedrine containing product
