abn amount of lipids- fat/cholesterol in blood. Tx Drug classes include– Bile acid-biding resin, Niacin, HMG-CoA Reductase inhib (AKA STATINS<—remember) Fibric Acids, Misc antilipemic agents (Zetia).

Bile acid-binding resin-nursing considerations
A
- some may see increase in triglycerides (usually not sign amt) but not used in clients with already elevated levels of triglycerides
- always obtain baseline data r/t GI before tx initiation
- may be used with statins to further lower LDL-c
- normal side effects constipation bloating fullness nausea flatulence
- Be aware may bind with many other meds digoxin thyroid hormones NSAIDS beta blocking agents
- schedule above meds one hr before or 4 hrs after. NEVER give together!!!
- Bile acid usually does not cause defeciency in vitamins but may reduce absorption of fat soluble vit’s ADEK and folic acid.
- The med Amiodarone should not be given concurrently.

- do not be alarmed at s/s consitipation bloating fullness nausea flatulence
- Be aware may bind with many other meds digoxin thyroid hormones NSAIDS beta blocking agents
