Pharm Flashcards
tx of primary HTN
diuretics, ACE inhib, CCBs
tx of HTN with CHF
diuretics, ACE inhib, b blockers
tx of HTN with diabetes
ACE inhib, CCBs, b blockers, a blockers
CCBs
amlodipine, nimodipine, nifedipine, diltiazem, verapamil
CCB - MOA
block voltage gated L-type calcium channels in cardiac and smooth muscle, reduces contractility
amlodipine
CCB, works more on smooth muscle
nifedipine
CCB, works more on smooth muscle
verapamil
CCB, works more on cardiac muscle (verapapmil = ventricle)
nimodipine
CCB, used for subarachnoid hemorrhage
CCB toxicity
cardiac depression, AV block, peripheral edema, flushing, dizziness, hyperprolactinemia
hydralazine
increase cGMP, causes smooth muscle relaxation.
dilates arterioles, afterload reduction
HTN tx in pregnancy
HTN emergency tx
nitroprusside, fenoldopam
nitroprusside
increase cGMP, direct NO release, can cause cyanide toxicity
fenoldopam
dopamine receptor agonist, vasodilation, decrease BP
nitroglycerin, isosorbide dinitrate
increase NO causing vasodilation, increase cGMP and relax smooth muscle, veins»arteries, decrease preload
