What is a pH indicator
A
Is a compound that undergoes a colour change in solution over a specific range of pH values. These indicators reveal whether a solution is acidic neutral or alkaline

How does a Ph indicator work
A
HIn(aq) + H2O(l) ⇌ H3O+(aq) + In-(aq)
The increase or decrease in H30 determines the colour of the indicator. If the pH is above a certain level it shows a basic colour if it is below it shows an acid colour
