how can you use kw to work out the pH of a strong base

A

1) strong bases fully ionise in water so they donate one mole of OH- ions per base
2) this means the concentration of OH- ions is the same concentration as the base
3) [OH-] is linked to the ionic product of water so you can rearrange the kW=[H+][OH-] to find [H+]
