Q

JT

A
JT is a 3D data format developed by Siemens and is used for product visualization, collaboration, and CAD data exchange. It can contain any combination of approximate (faceted) data, exact boundary representation surfaces (NURBS), Product and Manufacturing Information (PMI), and Metadata (textual attributes) either exported from the native CAD system or inserted by a product
data management (PDM) system. JT files are lightweight usually 1-10% of CAD files.

Q

BREP

A

Boundary representation is a way of defining geometric forms using edges, faces and vertices. The advantage is that these edges are stitched together, so with the addition of surface data, this too can be stitched into a complex solid model

Orthographic Projection

A

1st Angle (EU) and 3rd Angle (US). is a way of drawing an 3D object from different directions. Usually a front, side and plan view are drawn so that a person looking at the drawing can see all the important sides.

Q

Datum Reference Frame

A

Exact point, axis, or plane which which you make measurements and verify dimensions. Usually two or three mutually perpendicular planes.

Datums should be defined on layers 150/151.

Q

CSYS

A

Coordinate System

There is an Absolute Coordinate System (ABS) which is fixed and cannot be moved.

There is a Work Coordinate System (WCS) which is where all of your data will be condtructed from. UG/NX always draws 2D geometry on the XY plane of the WCS.

There is a Feature Coordinate System (FCS) that is defined for the feature being created.

There is a Manufacturing Coordinate System (MCS) used for generating tool paths.

There is a Reference Coordinate System (RCS) used in the manufacturing module for transposing tool paths.

Q

REFERENCE SET

A

Names collections of objects in a component part file. This must be set to MODEL. Two default reference sets are: EMPTY and ENTIRE PART.

Reference Sets allow you to control what content from a Component will be displayed in an Assembly. Basically, Reference Sets allow you to easily isolate a set of objects within a component and show only those objects in an assembly.

This is critical to how much data you want loaded when you open your assembly. When it comes to large assy management, ref set strategies are critical to your ability to work.

Q

ALTREP

A

Alternate Representations. In the Unigraphics integration with Teamcenter, alt reps are additional datasets which describe the design described by the UGMASTER dataset. Alt reps are alternate representations of the geometry. A significant limitation with alt reps is that they cannot be assemblies.

43
Q

BVR

A

44
Q

Dataset

A

A workspace object which is an abstraction of a file stored in Teamcenter. A dataset typically contains one or more named references, which may be files stored on the volume server or forms.

45
Q

Deep Copy Rule

A

A configuration option for Item Revisions which defines how related objects, such as datasets and BVRs will be handled when a new revision is created. Typical options are to not copy the related object, to add a reference to the existing object under the new revision, or to create a duplicate object under the new revision.

46
Q

EBOM

A

Engineering BOM. The complete BOM of a Part, which can be used for ordering and building the part.

47
Q

GTAC

A

Global Technical Access Center, the product support help desk for Siemens PLM products.

48
Q

iMan

A

The old name for the software application which was eventually renamed as Teamcenter Engineering.

49
Q

IR

A

Item Revision or Incident Report

50
Q

IRM

A

Item Revision Master.

51
Q

Item

A

The basic object used to track a single, revisable, piece of data. Typically used for drawings and parts, it may also represent manufacturing data, parts list, or other types of data.

52
Q

Item Master

A

A form object attached to every item containing fields which may contain extra properties about the item.

53
Q

Item Revision

A

A specific revision of an Item.

54
Q

Item Revision Master

A

A form attached to every item revision containing fields which may contain extra properties about the item revision.

55
Q

Metaphase

A

The old name of the application that was eventually renamed to Teamcenter

56
Q

Named Reference

A

The contents of a Dataset.

57
Q

Occurrence

A

A specific instance of specific component within an assembly. Occurrences have position, quantity, and notes that are specific to a particular instance of a component within a particular assembly.

58
Q

POM

A

A persistent object in the Teamcenter data model. POM Objects are represented by entries in database tables.

59
Q

Product Lifecycle Management

A

The problem which Teamcenter exists to solve. In theory, a fully implemented PLM system would manage product data from initial requirements gathering, through the design and manufacturing stages, and through sale to the customer and maintenance in the field.

60
Q

Revision Rule

A

A tool used by Structure Manager, and other tools that manipulate BOMs, that determines which revision of assembly components to display based on a defined set of rules.
