What is a patient group direction?
A
Provides a legal mechanism so medicines can be supplied without the need for prescription.

Who can use a PGD?
A
Only trained healthcare professionals that are fit to supply within the criteria of the PGD.

What 3 things are needed for a PGD to be valid?
A
- Meets the criteria for the info. it must contain
- Meets the criteria for the patient group that the PGD is can be used for
- Meets the criteria for how the PGD itself is drawn up

Why do we need PGDs?
A
- Supports self care
- Improves choice, convenience + access to treatment
- Medicines are provided at NHS expense for those in inclusion criteria/exempt from prescription charges
- Provides access + support to patients alongside treatments
- Improves primary care capacity (e.g. decreases GP workload)
