Pesticide Basics Flashcards
Chapter 4
What stage of devleopment does an adulticide control?
Adult
What factors influence pesticide effectiveness?
There are many factors that affect the pesticides ability to control a pest such as:
- water quality
- environmental weather conditions
- density of the pest
- timing of application*
- pest resistance to the insecticide
What is a microbial insecticide and give an example?
Microbial insecticides are naturally occuring bacteria found in soil and are pest-specific.
Example: BTI for the larval stage of mosquitoes and black flies
Name 2 insecticides for the adult stage of mosquitoes
Permethrin
Malathion
What are the common mode of action groupings of pesticides used in the control of biting flies?
Contact or systemic (route of entry) insecticides
Selective or non-selective (selectivity)
Residual or non-residual (residual effectiveness)
Growth regulators
Repellents
