When would a mosquito/ biting flies licensed exterminator NOT require a permit to use pesticides for the control of black fly or mosquito larvae?
A permit is not required when using a pesticide in, on, over a portion of surface water that is located within the boundaries of the premises he/she owns or occupies or that is owned or occupied by their full time employer.
And unless using a pesticide that contains diuron or acrolein, a use permit is not required if they are using an appropriately labeled class B, C, or D insecticide to control aquatic stages of mosquitoes or biting flies, the water body:
- is a wholly contained water body located within in the boundaries of the premises they own or is occupied by their full time employer
- AND does not at any time of year by any means directly or indirectly discharge into a well, lake, river, pond, spring, steam, reservoir, or other water or watercourse that is located wholly or partiallly outside the boundaries of the premises
In addition to mosquito/biting flies exterminator license, what else is required for the commercial application of pesticides to water for mosquito and black fly control?
An approved use permit
When a mosquito/biting flies licensed exterminator applies for a use permit for larvacides to control mosquitoes for the prevention or control of WNv what information must be submitted to the Ministry of the Environment Regional Specialist?
Specific support documentation from the local Medical Officer of Health
At the end of the year, what information must a mosquito/biting flies licensed exterminator submit to the Regional Pesticides Specialist with respect to the use of larvicides under an approved use permit for WNv prevention and control?
A summary report containing information on the date of treatment, locations, permit number, pesticide info (what, how), map with the UTM coordinates
Are alternative notification options from residential sign posting if a mosquito/biting flies licensed exterminator were using adulticides for nuisance misquitoes?
No, there are no alternative notification options for residential area sign requirements. The posting of signs is the only method of public notification in residential areas.
