Population
In 2021, greater Perth’s population passed 2.1 million people with a population density of of 330 people per square kilometre. Perth city has a density of 3500 people per square kilometre.
The fastest growing areas from 2016-2021 were Kwinana (22% increase) and Armadale (20% increase).
Age
There is an ageing population (37 years median age in 2021, up from 35.7 in 2011.
There was a higher proportion of the younger population in outer suburbs (such as the NGZ) due to cheaper land and houses, and a greater community atmosphere.
There is a higher proportion of the older population (65+) living in inner suburbs and the ERZ.
Gender
In 2021 there were slightly more females than males in the Perth metro area.
This is due to more males working in regional areas.
