Functionalism
States that families serve a specific purpose within society and family members are expected to fill prescribed roles for the good of society as a whole
What is the life course approach
Describes predictable changes in the behaviour of individuals or families as they progress through various stages and adapt to internal or external stimuli
System theory
Concludes that people are able to interact effectively only of they can communicate using a common language
Exchange theory
Explains that individuals assume res where the benefits outweigh the cost
Conflict theory
Looks at how societies are held together by power bit by individuals and groups needing and depending in each other
Feminist theory
Looks at the impact of sex and gender in behaviour and from the specific point of women
Ecological perspective
Looks at individuals and families as members of interlocking systems within society that influence each other
