Personality disorder
Deeply engrained and enduring pattern of inner experience and behaviour Leads to distress or impairment
It is persuasive and inflexible and has an onset in adolescence or early adulthood and is stable overtime.

ABC
WWW - A = weird, B = Wild, C = Worriers
RF of PD
Society - Low SES and social reinforcement of abnormal behaviour are linked
Genetics - Monozygotic twin show a high concordance rate
Dysfunctional Family - Poor parenting and parental deprivation are risks
Abuse during childhood - This includes physical, sexual and emotional abuse as well as neglect.

General treatment PD
RA - self, others in emotionally unstable
Written crisis plan - crisis resolution team and mental health act
Identify and treat co-morbid mental health disorders
Treat any substance misuse
Help patient to deal with situations that provoke behaviour or traits
Provide general support to reduce tension and anxieties
Give support and reassurance to family and friends

- Atypical antipsychotics - short term for transient psychotic periods
- Mood stabilisers - emotionally unstable
