What is personality disorder?
An enduring pattern of inner experience and behaviour that deviates markedly from the expectations of the individual’s culture.
What 4 ways are personality disorders manifested?
Cognition
Affectivity
Interpersonal functioning
Impulse control
Characteristics of anankastic personality disorder?
Excessive doubt and caution
Preoccupation with details
Perfectionism
Rigid and stubborn
What is paranoid PD?
Pervasive distrust and suspiciousness of others such that their motives are interpreted as malevolent, beginning by early adulthood.
What is schizoid PD?
Pervasive pattern of detachment from social relationships and restricted range of expressions in emotion eg doesn’t enjoy close relationships.
What is antisocial PD?
Pervasive pattern of disregard for and violation of the rights of others.
What is borderline PD?
Pervasive pattern of instability of interpersonal relationships, self image, affect and marked impulsivity.
What s histrionic PD?
Pervasive pattern of excessive emotionality and attention seeking.
What is avoidant PD?
Pervasive pattern of social inhibition, feeling of inadequacy and hypersensitivity to negative evaluation.
What is dependent PD?
Pervasive and excessive need to be taken care of that leads to submissive and clinging behaviour and fears of separation
What is obsessive-compulsive
Pervasive pattern of preoccupation with orderliness, perfectionism, and mental and interpersonal control.
Prognosis of PD?
Most appear to be stable over time, however some do change
Treatment of PD?
No quality evidence to guide treatment
Main treatment Dialectical behavioural therapy
Treat comorbifity (eg anxiety etc)
