A condition of arrested or incomplete development of the mind.
Criteria of LD?
IQ<70
Developmental aetiology (<18 years)
Deficits in adaptive functioning
How is learning disability assessed?
Wechsler adult inteligence scale (WAIS)
Clin findings
What is the flynn effect?
The effect that IQ seems to have increased by an average of three points per decade since 1930
IQ for mild LD
50-69
IQ for borderline IQ?
70-84
Signs of mild LD
Delayed speech
Fully independant however
Difficulty reading or writing
IQ and signs of moderate LD?
35-49, mental age 6 to 9 years
Slow comprehension and language
Delayed self care
Simple practical asks often require supervision
Epilepsy and physical disability common
Severe LD IQ?
20-34 Mental age 3-6 years
Profound LD IQ and signs?
less than 20 Under 3 years
Severe limitations in abiltiy to understand instructions
Little/no self care
Often severe mobility restriction
Basic or simple tasks may be acquired
Downs genetic abnormality
Trisomy 21
Patau genetic abnormality
Trisomy 13
Edwards genetic abnormality
Trisomy 18
