Q

Warren Buffet Saying No

A

People are going to want your time. It’s the only thing you can’t buy. I can buy anything I want, basically, but I can’t buy time.
The difference between successful people and really successful people is that really successful people say no to almost everything.

Jeff Bezos Saying Yes

A

Saying yes sometimes also helps us take advantage of what Jeff Bezos calls “wandering.”
As Bezos wrote in Amazon’s 2018 shareholder letter:
Sometimes (often actually) in business, you do know where you’re going, and when you do, you can be efficient. Put in place a plan and execute. In contrast, wandering in business is not efficient … but it’s also not random. Wandering is an essential counterbalance to efficiency. You need to employ both.
The outsized discoveries – the “non-linear” ones – are highly likely to require wandering.

Mel Robbins - 5 points about friendship

A
  1. Everybody else’s life is not a party. Either make your life a party or focus on making a few good friends
  2. People like you more than you think - start acting like it
  3. Best Friends are Flexible. Don’t put pressure on yourself to be BFF. Tune in to what you need, to be people that feel like warmth
  4. You don’t have to be everybody’s friend. Not everybody is meant to be your friend
  5. Friends are critical to live a happy life. You deserve to have good friends and you deserve to be a good friend. You’re not too busy or too tired.

Q

Empathy

A

“Empathy is not simply a matter of trying to imagine what others are going through, but having the will to muster enough courage to do something about it. In a way, empathy is predicated upon hope.”

Cornel West, The Moral Obligations of Living in a Democratic Society, in The Good Citizen, 1999
