Communication- more importantly listening as you need to be able to understand the patients concerns and symptoms and allow them to lead the conversation when necessary
S- pharmacy work experience
T- pharmacist needed to gather info on a patient as she thought there was a problem with is prescription
A- called the GP to confirm the details and sort it out before proceeding as well as calling the patient to discuss how they felt about this change and even though the patient was quite confused and annoyed, the pharmacist remained composed and allowed him to finish what he was saying, used an empathetic and warm tone of voice
R- although this took longer, due to the efficiency of both the pharmacist and the GP they were able to discuss the patients medications and ensure he got the ones he needed
R- allowed me to think about how I can use this skill as a doctor- listening to patients concerns s that I’m treating them holistically and prioritising patient centred care as well as relaying bad or difficult news or speaking to those whose first language isn’t English
