Define “Individual Differences.”
enduring characteristics of persons, established by adulthood, modified only with considerable effort or extreme circumstance

What are the “Big 5” personality dimensions?
OCEAN - openness, conscientiousness, extroversion, agreeableness, neuroticism
What is Personality?
the relatively stable set of behaviors, attitudes, and emotions displayed consistently over times and situations that make people different
Define Openness.
how much a person is broad-minded, imaginative, original, risk-taking, curious, and artistically sensitive
Define Conscientiousness.
how much a person is planful, persevering, careful, organized, hard-working, achievement-oriented, and responsible
Define Extraversion.
how much a person is active, assertive, gregarious, sociable, talkative, and energized by contact with others
Define Agreeableness.
bow much a person is cooperative, polite, flexible, forgiving, good-natured, tolerant, altruistic, and trusting
Define Neuroticism.
how much a person is angry, depressed, anxious, moody, insecure, unsettled, nervous, annoyed
How are KSAs different from personality?
KSAs describe capability, personality describes behavior.
What is an important ability and dimensions of it?
Intelligence - capacity to learn; verbal, quantitative, analytical, spatial/perceptual
What individual traits are important in all jobs?
Personality = Conscientiousness KSA = general intelligence
Define Emotional Intelligence.
the ability to monitor own and others’ feelings and affect, to discriminate among them and to use this information to guide thinking and actions
What are the 7 basic emotions?
happiness, sadness, anger, contempt, discomfort, surprise, fear
